Rove safely during COVID

Updated: Jul 28, 2021

Welcome to Redd Rovers. If you intend to travel during the COVID19 pandemic, please follow all safety rules at your destination and en route. Guidelines are changing constantly, so stay informed. The U.S. State Department has information for specific nations. Here are the national guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control. The AARP has been maintaining a list of laws in effect for all 50 states in the USA.

Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and others -- especially people such as transplant recipients, for whom the vaccine doesn't work. Along with rigorous social distancing and handwashing, wearing facemasks remains critically important in many situations. Together, these are the most effective tools for protecting your health, the health of others and for keeping businesses open. Avoid crowds. If you feel sick, stay home and read more about the places you want to visit, so you will enjoy your trip later.

The “Safe Stay” initiative from the American Hotel and Lodging Association COVID is a set of CDC-compliant safety standards endorsed by major hotel and resort chains and hospitality trade groups. Nevertheless, during our extremely limited travels at the height of the pandemic, we encountered one lodging in flagrant violation of both these standards and state law. Depending upon the current circumstances at your destination, I advise calling the hotel or resort before you go and asking point blank if their employees are following the current policies.

Many people are not yet ready to travel and some areas remain unsafe to travel. So this blog includes lots of “I can dream, can’t I?” ideas and advice for future expeditions. Dreaming and planning is what we've done throughout COVID, and we are glad for carefully chosen opportunities to begin to explore again.
